Clayton Library is moving across the road to the new Clayton Community Centre in Cooke Street and will open its doors on 7 April.
Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said that the library is one of the many services that will soon open at the new $24.2 million Clayton Community Centre.
"This is a terrific complex for the Clayton community. By bringing together a range of community services, Council has made it as user-friendly and inclusive as possible," said Cr Klisaris.
In addition to the library, the new Clayton Community Centre will house a theatrette, pre-school, occasional care, youth and family services, maternal and child care services, café, gymnasium, meeting rooms, an indoor aquatic facility and MonashLink community health services.
Regular activities at the library include Preschool storytimes on Mondays at 11.00am, and Cyberkidz for kids in Grades 3 - 6 on the third Monday of each month at 4pm.
There is a homework club for secondary students every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4.00pm to 6.00 pm and Thursdays from 6.00pm to 8.00pm during school term.
A new Seniors Internet Club starts on 17 April and will meet on the third Thursday of each month at 10.00am - 12noon.
Cr Klisaris announced that there would also be author talks and workshops as part of the Monash Literature Festival 2008.
"This major Council facility has been years in planning and construction. It will provide our residents with a wealth of recreational, educational and health services right in the heart of Clayton," said Cr Klisaris.
The old library will close on 20 March and reopen in the Clayton Community Centre on 7 April. For further information, please phone Clayton Library on 9544 0668.
