Fathers' Support Group In Oakleigh

18 March 2008

Monash Youth and Family Services and the Australian Greek Welfare Society will be running a support group for fathers in Oakleigh.

The group is open to any fathers with school-aged children up to 18 years of age who live, work or have a link to the City of Monash.

Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said the group would cover a range of topics around the joys and challenges of fatherhood.

"Often the importance of a male figure in a child’s life is underestimated. As a father who has a hands-on approach to the operation of my own childcare business, I have a unique insight into what fathers of various nationalities face when raising children," said Cr Klisaris.

"This group will give participants the opportunity to connect with other fathers and learn from each other in a caring, confidential environment," said Cr Klisaris.

The group will also aim to provide participating fathers with the opportunity to have input into the topics that are covered in the program.

The group will run for 6-weeks, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on Tuesday nights, starting on 20 May. There will be an information night regarding the group for any potential group participants to attend on 6 May at 6:30pm in Oakleigh. The information night is not essential for participating in the group, but it is recommended.

There is no cost for attending the group, however bookings are essential as spaces are limited.

To book call the Australian Greek Welfare Society (AGWS) on 9388 9998.
