Monash Youth Go 'Back To The Festival'
25 March 2008
If you've never done a 'ollie', 'nollie', 'rail grind' or 'backside 180' (or you have no idea what they are) then it's time to go 'Back To The Festival' for National Youth Week.
The eighth annual Glen Waverley Youth Music and Skate Festival, will have Glen Waverley's Central Reserve bustling on Sunday 13 April with skaters getting air, street dancers krumping and ten local bands rockin the main stage from 11am until 6pm.
Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said 'Back To The Festival' was a great opportunity for residents of all ages to celebrate National Youth Week.
"I thought a 'chicken salad' was something you had for lunch. Now I've been informed that it also refers to a 360 degree flip off a skate bowl wall. As my own teenagers keep reminding me, an old dog can still learn new tricks. I'll just make sure my medical insurance is paid up first," he said.
Mayor Klisaris, a dedicated devotee of 'break dancing', said he was looking forward to learning some new moves at the free krumping workshops at noon and 2pm. 'Back To The Festival' will also feature giveaways, amusements, and a sausage sizzle.
To register your spot in the skate comp, competitors can visit Boardworx at Brandon Park, or Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre. Skaters can also register on the day from 10.30am.
As part of the National Youth Week celebrations, Monash Young Persons Reference Group in conjunction with the Monash Gallery of Art will also conduct a free interactive workshop on the pinhole camera on 12 April for 15 to 25 years.
