Nominations Open For Sir John Monash Awards

Monash Council is calling for nominations for the annual Sir John Monash Community Awards to recognise local residents who have given outstanding service to the City and its community.
"Community leadership is everyone's business. The dedicated work of Monash’s many volunteers enable Council to deliver a wide range of social services to our residents. These Awards are our way to acknowledge these remarkable contributions made by local heroes for the well being of our community,"” Cr Klisaris said..
Nominations for the Awards are open in three categories:- Community Leadership Award;
- Volunteer of the Year Award; and
- Young Volunteer Award (under 25 years).
Any person may be nominated for an award by any individual, community organisation, professional body or similar group.
Mount Waverley resident, Mr Shashi Kant Kochhar, was named the 2007 recipient of the Sir John Monash Community Leadership Award. Mr Kochhar is a founding member of the Friends of the Children Foundation, volunteer for the Clean Up Australia Day, the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, Friend’s of Scotchman’s Creek & Valley Reserve, Special Kids, Planet Ark, Neighbourhood Watch and has been both President and a committee member of the Hindu Society of Victoria.
Nominations for the 2008 Sir John Monash Community Awards close on Thursday 29 May.
