Launch of 2008 Winter Concert Series

10 April 2008

Tribute trio, the 'Three Tenors', will launch the annual free Winter Concert Series on 20 April at the Monash Civic Centre, performing arias made famous by Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti.

Held on the third Sunday of each month from April to September, this year’s program is an exciting mix of genres from opera to jazz, big band and classical, with the Royal Australian Navy Band performing a special concert at the Oakleigh Hall. The finale of the series, will be a showcase of the Waverley Music Eisteddfod winners.

Mayor, Paul Klisaris said that due to the overwhelming popularity of last year's concerts, Council has introduced a bookings system for the 2008 Winter Concert Series.

"The 2007 series was a fantastic success with record attendances, showing the growth in popularity of the six concerts. Even on a chilly Winter day, it wasn’t unusual to see crowds lining up early on a Sunday to secure their seats," said Cr Klisaris.

Cr Klisaris said the new booking system, would facilitate community access to this great annual concert series.

Bookings can be made Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, in the week prior to the concert (or until booked out). Please check the program for booking dates. Maximum bookings of four seats per person can be made.
