The Magic of Mulgrave Fun Day

7 May 2008

A magical, musical extravaganza is planned for the 5th annual Mulgrave Fun Day on Saturday, 31 May at the new Wellington Reserve Community Centre.

Straight from the Enchanted Forest, Magic Sally, a faerie rock band, will lead the entertainment on the main stage. Sally the Faerie and her band mates Fuggle the Goblin, Trixie the Pixie, Mervil the Wizard and Grivel the Forest Beast will perform hits from their debut album 'A Faerie Rock Band' from 11am.

Magic Sally will be followed by multi-talented performer Paul Jamieson who has starred on Foxtel's "Funhouse" and Network Seven's "The Bookplace". Fun foursome, Gee Whiz Kidz will combine their love of music and classic Australian storytelling in a fun-filled show for all ages and Ron the Clown will deliver an assault on your funny bone.

The 2008 Mulgrave Fun Day will also feature free fun activities for the kids, including an animal farm, jumping castle, face and plaster painting, Lil’ Red fire engine rides plus roving performers, community information and food stalls.

Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said residents would get a chance to visit the new $2 million Wellington Reserve Community Centre, home to the Mulgrave Girl Guides, Mulgrave Scout Group and Mulgrave Neighbourhood House.

"This is a terrific council facility that will provide for a diverse range of groups as well as a local base for community health, counseling and family services," said Cr Klisaris.

On the Fun Day, Mulgrave Girl Guides will demonstrate damper making. The Trefoil Ladies will host a Devonshire Tea and the 3rd Mulgrave Scout Group will run a community sausage sizzle. The Mulgrave Neighbourhood House will have child play equipment, tai chi workshops and arts and craft activities throughout the day.

Monash residents will also have the opportunity to become a part of Victorian history with the collection of signatures on the 2008 Monster Petition.

Cr Klisaris said that one of 170 calico banners traveling across Victoria this year to mark the 100th anniversary of Victorian women winning the right to vote will be at the Mulgrave Fun Day.

"The 2008 Monster Petition is a chance for residents to learn more about Victorian history and the role that the suffragists played in delivering a basic right – the right for all adults to vote," said Cr Klisaris.

The Mulgrave Fun Day is a wastewise event from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, 31 May Monash Council and Monash Journal proudly support it.

Wellington Reserve Community Centre is located at Mackie Road, Mulgrave.
