Invitation To Monash Environment Day Awards

15 May 2008

The Monash Sustainable Futures Forum would like to extend an invitation to Monash residents to attend the 6th Annual World Environment Day Awards on Thursday, 5 June 2008.

Each year on this United Nations designated day, the world focuses its attention on the environment, and in particular, on successful ways we are protecting or restoring our natural heritage.

Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said this is an opportunity for residents to discover what environmental changes are happening in Monash and celebrate the achievements of our residents, businesses, schools and community groups.

"By honouring individuals and organisations at the Monash World Environment Day Awards, we are seeking inspiration from their environmental deeds and practices as well as highlighting the actions each of us can take to protect our earth," said Cr Klisaris.

Guest speaker, Dr Sarah Bekessy from RMIT University, will deliver an address about sustainability, biodiversity, ecology and habitat in the City of Monash. There will also be displays by community groups, local businesses and Monash City Council.

Prizes will be awarded to the successful nominee in each of the following categories:
  • Greenest Household
  • Sustainable New Building/Renovation
  • Sustainable Business
  • Community
  • School Poster Competition
The Monash World Environment Day Awards are sponsored by Maroondah Credit Union, Fasham, CETEC, Visy Recycling, the Monash Journal and Monash City Council.

Bookings for this function can be made by phoning Nina Thomas on 9518 3423 or emailing WED@monash.vic.gov.au. Attendance is free, however bookings are required by Friday, 23 May for seating and catering purposes
