17 June 2008
Monash City Council has entered into a partnership with State Trustees to deliver a range of programs for older adults, people with a disability and disadvantaged residents in the City of Monash.
Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said that the programs and initiatives implemented as part of this partnership would increase access, participation and engagement in a range of council and community facilities.
"One of the key objectives of this partnership is to increase the level of awareness, knowledge of amenities and services offered through Council and State Trustees to our community," Cr Klisaris said.
"These accessible computer stations will empower people with disabilities to access and participate in their local communities. It also enables individuals to gain access to computer equipment and the Internet that they may not otherwise have," Cr Klisaris said.
The new computer equipment will include DAISY accessible information software, keyboard guards, Ablenet switch mice and screen readers.
State Trustees has helped Victorians with their financial needs so they can make the most of their opportunities since 1939.
"At State Trustees we believe it is critical that every person is given the best chance to realise their full potential and that is a key objective of our support for Victorians, through both our financial services and extensive community work," Mr Fitzgerald said.
"By joining with Monash Council on a common goal we can help residents make a greater connection with their community, giving those who are more isolated and vulnerable an improved quality of life through access to better resources."
The launch will be held at the Monash Civic Centre, 293 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley on 26 June at 11.00am.
