Pre-School Enrolments for 3 Yr Olds to Open from January 2009
27 August 2008
Monash Council has agreed to extend its central enrolment scheme for preschools to include three-year-old preschool programs.
Monash Mayor, Paul Klisaris said that Council administers a central enrolment database on behalf of Monash preschools that covered preschool programs for four-year-olds in their year prior to school. Currently, all preschools include three-year-old groups in their programs, but accept the enrolments for those groups themselves.
"As a childcare provider in Monash, I know the planning problems that result when parents try to cover all bases by enrolling their children at multiple preschools. The figures are artificially inflated causing issues such as staffing levels, resources and the number of real places available," said Cr Klisaris.
"Preschools in Monash have proposed the changes to achieve a more streamlined process. As preschools will soon be allocating three-year-old places for 2009, the first set of enrolments to be incorporated in the Monash central enrolment scheme will be those for 2010," Cr Klisaris said.
Enrolments for three-year-old places in 2010 and later that are already held by preschools will be entered on the central enrolment database automatically.
Three year old preschool places will be Centrally enrolled at council as from January 1 2009 for 2010 onward. Preschools will continue to take bookings until January.
