2008 Golden Plate Award Winners Announced

The seventh annual Golden Plate Awards were presented last night to Monash eateries in five categories, which include Restaurants, Cafes, Takeaway Foods, School Canteens and Child Care Centres and Aged Care Facilities and Hospital Kitchens.

Each year, the awards become more competitive and in 2008 Monash Council awarded 75 food premises with a Golden Plate Award.

The Golden Plate Awards are given to food premises that best demonstrate high achievement in meeting better and safer standards of nutrition, hygiene and sustainable environments.

Prizes were awarded to the overall winners in each category and all businesses invited to attend the awards ceremony received a framed certificate.

Monash Council Environmental Health Services Coordinator Adrian White said that one of the goals of Monash's Health Plan is to support the community in making informed nutritional choices by encourAgeing food businesses to provide healthy food options.

"We're very excited that so many Monash food businesses, schools, child-care centres, hospitals and aged care facilities are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the community," said Mr White.
