Have Your Say On Monash's Future

27 January 2009

Residents will be able to have their say on the future of Monash at local festivals this summer.

As part of developing the Monash Council Plan 2009-2013, we will be seeking community feedback, asking residents what they believe are the main issues and concerns facing the municipality.

In 2002, Monash City Council adopted a Community Consultation Framework to ensure effective consultation with the community, that promotes involvement and makes decisions that are open, transparent and responsive to local needs.

Mayor Paul Klisaris said that Council is committed to consulting with its community and customers in all areas of planning and service delivery.

"We have continued to review our Plan and want residents to tell us what they want by visiting the festivals being held in Glen Waverley, Clayton, Oakleigh and Mulgrave," said Cr Klisaris.

Community feedback display boards will be at the festivals giving residents the opportunity to indicate what they think should be Council's top priorities across ten major themes. Those themes include Community, Youth & Family Services, Aged Health & Community Care, Cultural Diversity, Environment, Residential Development, Economic Development, District and Activity Centre Development, Transport & Traffic Management and Council Facilities.

"There is always a range of competing projects within the community that stretch our limited budget. These community consultations assist us to determine Monash's primary priorities," said Cr Klisaris.

Council will also be consulting with local groups and advisory committees before releasing a draft 2009-2013 Plan for wider community consultation in May.

The current Council Plan 2006-2010 Update can be viewed at any of Monash's libraries, Sevice Centres or by visiting the website at Council Plan 2006 – 2010

Community feedback marquees will be located at:
  • Chinese New Year & Lantern Festival in Glen Waverley 8 February
  • Clayton Festival 22 February
  • Oakleigh Festival 15 March
  • Mulgrave Family Fun Day 18 April.
