Holmesglen Student Wins Monash Film Festival

17 September 2009

Holmesglen TAFE film student, Matt Pastor was last night announced the winner of Best Film at the 2009 Monash Youth Film Festival LIGHTS!CAMERA!SHORTS! at the Village Cinemas in Glen Waverley.

Matt's short film 'Mimiking,' is a powerful portrayal of sentiment, communication and first love, which follows a Japanese exchange student and her collection of rocks.

This is the second time Matt has received a Monash film prize after last year winning the Original Concept Award. 'Mimiking' has also screened internationally as part of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival (Short Film Corner).

LIGHTS!CAMERA!SHORTS! recognises the talent of budding filmmakers residing or studying in the Monash area. 25 people submitted their short films of 15 minutes or less and rollPLAY Productions, the festival committee, selected 14 films to screen as finalists.

Mayor Paul Klisaris said that the Monash Youth Film Festival is an excellent way to encourage young people's creative abilities and participation in the artistic community.

"This is one of the ways Council and MYFS (Monash Youth and Family Services) can encourage and reward creative contributions to our vibrant local arts scene. The entries this year were fantastic and the competition was fierce," said Cr Klisaris.
