Good Safe Fun For Community Safety Month

22 September 2009

Monash residents are invited to join 'Walktober' in Jells Park or attend an event at the Seniors Week Festival and the Ashwood Chadstone Fun Day to learn how to stay safe all year round as part of Community Safety Month in October.

Monash City Council has joined forces with the Victoria Police, Metropolitan Fire Brigade, VicRoads, Neighbourhood Renewal Program, Neighbourhood Watch, Monash Volunteer Resource Centre, MonashLink community Health Service and Greater Monash GP Network to host a series of events and distribute information aimed at making the community a safer place.

Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said that community safety is one of Council's most important priorities and that Community Safety Month provides information, activities and safety measures aimed at reducing crime, violence, injuries and emergencies.

"Community Safety Month is a statewide initiative that we've been involved with for the last five years. Although the events are social and fun, they also serve an important purpose to provide valuable information and tips on how to manage safety risks, crime, violence and emergency situations," said Cr Klisaris.
