Building A Stronger Clayton
23 September 2009
The Clayton Community Strengthening Project is looking for passionate local residents who want to help created a plan to shape the Clayton area.
Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said the Clayton Community Strengthening Project will produce a Community Action Plan that will focus on increasing civic participation and optimising usage of the Clayton Community Centre.
"What better way to create a Community Action Plan than to involve the people who live and work in the area? Residents who are passionate about their neighbourhood, those who are connected to local schools, sports clubs or social clubs and want to have a say about the future of Clayton are invited to participate in this project," said Cr Klisaris.
Monash City Council was awarded $30,000 from the Department of Planning and Community Development to produce the Community Action Plan, which is the first of it's kind in Monash, as it targets a specific geographic area.
Around forty people attended the second public meeting on 19 August to identify and discuss key issues for Clayton.
One of the objectives of the project is to ensure that the award-winning Clayton Community Centre reaches it's full potential for the maximum benefit of the community.
The next meeting of community volunteers will be held on the afternoon of 10 October at Clayton Community Centre, corner of Centre Road and Cooke Street.
Those who want to participate in the Clayton Community Strengthening Project can complete an EXPRESSION OF INTEREST form at Clayton Wants You! or phone Julius Peiker on 9518 3531 or email juliusp@monash.vic.gov.au
