Monash Council to Launch New Action Plan at Annual Disability Forum

23 September 2009

Monash City Council will launch the new Disability Access and Inclusion Framework and Action Plan 2009-2013 at the annual Monash Disability Forum on 6 October.

This year's Forum will focus on the challenges and opportunities for children and young adults with a disability, their families and carers. A panel of speakers will address participants to help raise awareness and understanding about issues that impact on them.

Mayor Paul Klisaris welcomed the launch of the new Action Plan and said that the Forum would be important for those who face access and inclusion challenges and also for service providers who work with and support people with a disability.

"Monash Council is committed to providing a fully accessible and inclusive community for people of all abilities. The Disability Access and Inclusion Framework and Action Plan is a planning document designed for making our city more liveable for all Monash residents," said Cr Klisaris.

The Monash Disability Forum is organised by Monash City Council in partnership with the Monash Disability Consultative Committee and will feature speakers including:
  • Dr David Sykes, Office of the Disability Services Commissioner
  • George Taleporos, Youth Disability Advocacy Service
  • Licia Kokocinski, Executive Officer of Action on Disability in Ethnic Communities
  • Carmel Valdez, Carer and Member of the Monash Disability Consultative Committee
  • Diane McCarthy, Association of Children with a Disability
  • Clinton Fullgrabe, Eastern Recreation & Leisure Services
The free Forum will be held on Tuesday, 6 October from 9.45am to 12.45pm at the Novotel Hotel, 285 Springvale Road, Glen Waverley.

To register your attendance, please phone Eugenia Grammatikakis on 9518 3625 or TTY 9518 3655, or email eugeniag@monash.vic.gov.au by Friday 2 October 2009.
