Kids and Parents Come to Play at Children's Week in Monash
6 October 2009
Children and their families will come out to play during National Children's Week, 24 - 30 October at family friendly events across the City of Monash.
Children's Week is celebrated annually in Australia during the fourth week in October. It is designated to celebrate the right of every child to enjoy childhood and is also a time for children to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities.
Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said that the Walk in The Park is one of his favourite activities for young children during the calendar year.
"Children's Week serves to remind us of not only how precious our children are to us individually, but also of how important they are to our future. I hope that all families with young children will join me in the Walk in the Park and take advantage of the other activities throughout the week," said Cr Klisaris.
After the walk around the park, children can break out their boogie shoes and dance to the whimsical tunes of Paul Jamieson the Music Man.
The Children's Expo and information area for parents at Waverley Netball Stadium next to Jells Park will offer advice on immunisations, Monash Library activities, safety, children's services and toy libraries.
This event falls during Community Safety Month and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Police, Vic Roads and Neighbourhood Watch will also be at the Expo to promote health and wellbeing for families with young children.
Children from ten children's services in Monash including family day care, childcare centres and kindergartens took photos of whatever they found interesting or fun. The resulting shots capture a few of their favourite things, including parents, siblings, pets, their own faces, toys, day trips and features of their neighbourhood.
