Sporting Good Fun At Ashwood Festival

7 October 2009

The Ashwood Chadstone Family Fun Day is all set to kick off the festival season in Monash with a jam-packed entertainment program including Freestyle Football and Footbag Clinics.

Freestyle Football is an exciting and entertaining new brand of soccer that involves the art of juggling a ball using various parts of the body. Footbag is the younger cousin of 'hacky-sack', updated to include creative new trick moves. It suits players of all ages.

Workshop marquees featuring baton twirling, theatre sports and African drumming will also feature at this exciting community event, which will be held at Batesford Reserve in Chadstone on Sunday, 18 October from 11am - 3pm.

Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said the Ashwood Chadstone Family Fun Day marks the official start of the festival season in Monash and usually attracts around 5,000 people.

"The Ashwood Chadstone Family Fun Day is a terrific community event and a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the best of everything this neighbourhood has to offer," said Cr Klisaris.

Demi Sorono, aka Demilition B-girl will be on hand to demonstrate the gravity defying moves she made famous around Australia in series one of the popular TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance.'

The event is held during Community Safety Month and will feature a community safety area with emergency services displays where you can take a safety quiz presented by Neighbourhood Renewal and Neighbourhood Watch.

Ashwood Family Fun Day also will feature 'Code One', theVictorian Police rock band, main stage entertainment with a variety of community performers and cultural performances, arts and craft activities, free children's rides, market, food and community stalls. Neighbourhood Renewal has also organised local community groups who will be cooking healthy foods on the day.
