New Members Sought For Council Groups
28 October 2009
The City of Monash is looking for passionate and energetic young and older people who want to contribute to the community by joining the Monash Young Persons Reference Group (MYPRG) and the Older Persons Reference Group (OPRG).
Mayor Paul Klisaris said that these important groups inform Council regarding the priorities and service needs of the community.
"Both of these groups contribute valuable information and advice to Council and both contribute resources towards the development of programs and services within our community," said Cr Klisaris.
The Monash Young Persons Reference Group is comprised of up to 19 young people aged 15-25. Last year, the group organised the Natural Confidence positive body image photography competition and exhibition and is completing a website portal to be launched early in 2010 for young people to advertise their groups and clubs or look for an activity to join. The group meets monthly on a Wednesday evening from 7pm - 9pm.
Council is also seeking adults aged 55 or over who are able to meet every six weeks, on Thursday afternoons from 2-4pm. Members of the OPRG have a role in voicing the concerns of older people, raising awareness and promoting the benefits of positive ageing. They also liaise with Council and advocate on behalf of older people.
The OPRG has been active in a number of projects including the Positive Ageing Expo, Positive Ageing Lifestyles Program and providing feedback on various Monash plans and strategies.
People who would like to join MYPRG or OPRG can phone Fiona Read on 9518 3214 (TTY 9563 3655), SMS 0400 668 905 or email fionar@monash.vic.gov.au.
