28 October 2009
The City of Monash has awarded $1,713,632 worth of community grants to provide funding to 194 groups, organisations and local emerging artists for projects in 2010 that will involve and benefit the Monash community.
This year, Council launched the new Monash Community Grants Program in May and ran grant application writing workshops for interested applicants. Applications were assessed by an evaluation panel consisting of Councillors Banerji, Perri, Drieberg, Lo, Baines and Dimopoulos.
Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said the grants are of vital importance to the community and provide many valuable services and cultural events to the municipality.
"In previous years, Council provided funding to community organizations and groups through the Monash Community Grants Program and Monash Community Arts Programs as separate entities, but this year the two funding programs were merged to streamline the process for applicants," said Cr Klisaris.
Each year, funding is provided to develop community partnerships, new initiatives and community support groups that offer a range of services and support to the diverse population of the municipality.
This funding is provided in cash allocations and also 'in kind ' support for the subsidised use of Council's halls, facilities and printing services.
