Celebrating Monash Youth In Action

4 November 2009

Monash Youth and Family Services (MYFS) is throwing a party in the courtyard at Clayton Community Centre on 24 November to celebrate Council's newly adopted Action Plan for Young People.

The launch party is open to the public and to people of all ages. There will be a BBQ and other refreshments, as well as a Wii competition and an acoustic musical performance by local songstress Shelley Evans.

Mayor Paul Klisaris said the party would provide an excellent opportunity for young people in Monash to check out the new plan and find out what activities and services are available to them.

"We have worked with young people in the City of Monash to develop this Plan for the future, which recognizes their contribution and role within the community and the challenges and opportunities that they will face over the next three years," said Cr Klisaris.

The Action Plan focuses on the needs of people aged 10 to 25 years in the City. This equates to over 37,000 people or 22% of the residential population.

The Plan was developed following direct consultations with young people, Council staff, over 40 youth service providers, survey data collected at the Glen Waverley and Clayton Festivals by MYFS staff, Community Satisfaction Survey results and data from the 2006 School Focused Needs Analysis Report.
The Action Plan has identified five key themes affecting young people and their families:
  • CALD and Multicultural
  • Engagement, Participation and Consultation
  • Constructed Environment
  • Health and Wellbeing and
  • Community Partnerships

The Action Plan for Young People launch party will be held on Tuesday 24 November from 4.15 to 5.30pm.

Anyone interested in attending this free event, please phone Nick at MYFS on 9518 3900.
