Lights! Camera! Shorts! Film Festival Entries Open
9 June 2009
Calling all budding Fellinis, Tarantinos and Luhrmanns!
Selected short films will be screened as part of the festival at Village Cinemas in Glen Waverley on 16 September.
Mayor Paul Klisaris said that the LIGHTS!CAMERA!SHORTS! Film Festival is an excellent way to encourage young people's creative abilities and participation in the artistic community.
"There are so many talented young people in the City of Monash and this is one of the ways local government can encourage and reward their contributions to our vibrant local arts scene," said Cr Klisaris.
Eleven prizes are up for grabs including three awards especially for secondary school students.
Last year Glen Waverley twins Chris and Robert Smellin won the top award for their fairytale short film 'The Girl in the Red Dress.' The brothers are currently studying filmmaking and are in their third year at Holmesglen TAFE.
'The Girl in the Red Dress' went on to be accepted into numerous overseas film festivals including the Atlanta Underground Film Festival, Denver Underground Film Festival, Melbourne Underground Film Festival, Smogdance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.
"This was our first film, so it was a fantastic experience for us to win the award and it really encouraged us to send the film out to other festivals. We also won honourable mention at the Smogdance Film Festival in California and now we're straight into our next big project," said Chris.
Entries close 26 August and young people who are interested in helping rollPLAY Productions plan and run this year's festival should phone Bill or Shelley on 9518 3900 or visit www.myfs.org.au to download an entry form.
