Glen Waverley Food, Wine and Music Festival

1 July 2009

Get ready to dine, drink and dance in the streets at the inaugural Glen Waverley Food, Wine & Music Festival on Sunday 15 November.

This new festival is set to become one of the premiere cultural and food events on the City of Monash's annual calendar and is expected to attract visitors from across Melbourne.

"This is a great opportunity for Monash retail traders, restaurants and artisans to show off their wares at this delicious new festival," said Cr Geoff Lake, who first proposed the festival on behalf of the Glen Waverley Traders Association at Council's 7 October meeting in 2008.

"The Glen Waverley Shopping Precinct is home to an eclectic and diverse array of businesses, eateries, fine dining and family activities and is perfectly positioned to host this new festival."

The Glen Waverley Food, Wine & Music Festival will transform the Glen Waverley Activity Centre into an upmarket festival venue that celebrates the best that Glen Waverley Traders have to offer.

Marquees in the area will offer a huge range of foods to tempt every taste bud and locally grown premium wines will be served in special green zones where festival attendees can relax to jazz, rhythm and soul music by some of the best names in the music industry.

A 'Chef's Gourmet Kitchen' will offer cooking demonstrations from both local chefs and Australian celebrity chef George Colombaris. Yarra Valley wines will be matched to prepared dishes with recipes available for the discerning chef to take away.

Council has approved $80,000 worth of funding to support the Event Organising Committee. The Event Organising Committee is intending to match Council's cash component of $60,000 through sponsorship, admission charges and local business donations.

The Glen Waverley Food, Wine & Music Festival will be held on 15 November from 10am to 8pm.

Interested potential stallholders can contact Event Manager, Catherine Franklin on 0418 535 254 for further information.
