Refurbishment of 50-Metre Pool at MARC
8 July 2009
As part of Monash City Council's investment in infrastructure and community facilities, Council is pleased to announce the commencement of a $620,000 upgrade to the outdoor 50-metre pool at Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre.
Mayor Paul Klisaris said that the upgrade would improve the overall quality and efficiency of the pool that was originally constructed in the 1960s.
"We're very grateful that the Federal Government has decided to fund the works at MARC.
New levels of pool water retention, water turnover and water recovery will mean a better aquatic experience for all users. These works will ensure that the pool is available for everyone to enjoy for many more decades to come," said Cr Klisaris.
Council has appointed Statewide Pool Services Pty Ltd to complete the upgrade.
Projects recently completed by Statewide Pool Services include the Clayton Aquatic Centre and pools in Alice Springs, Yulara/Ayres Rock and Bathurst Island. Geoff Ninnes Fong and Partners Pty Ltd will provide professional advice and inspections during the construction works.
The works will entail construction of a new return water pit and water trench return, renovation of the existing pool's gutters, application of new pool surface finishes, update of pipe work and distribution system and various other necessary works. Maintenance of the remote existing balance take and valve pit is also required.
The water that is drained from the MARC outdoor pool is expected to be used to test the shells of the new pools at the Oakleigh Aquatic Centre.
