Monash Survey Focuses on Women in Business
4 August 2009
Local businesswomen will soon have their own social network following a survey being conducted by Monash City Council.
The survey was launched last May at the Women in Business Exhibition Showcase and Business Breakfast to investigate interest in forming a Women's Business Network.
Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said; "Council has provided $15,000 in funding to help get this important networking and development forum off the ground. Our local businesses are an important part of the Monash economy and this is a great way to support their work."
The Women's Business Network will provide an opportunity for women to meet, hear guest speakers, exchange ideas and problem solve. It also presents an enjoyable forum to create valuable new contacts and potential new clients for their businesses.
According to the 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census, almost 40,000 women were employed in the City of Monash, with the median age of female employees at 40.5 years. Women in this age group are particularly interested in working towards a healthy work/life balance, which is one of the areas being explored in the survey.
The Women's Business Network is based on a successful model operating at the City of Glen Eira and, earlier this year, Cr Stefanie Perri proposed that Monash adopt the program.
"This survey will help us develop and structure our own Network, which will be launched in October this year," said Cr Perri.
The survey is open until 31 August and can be completed at "Have Your Say" or by calling Priya Prasad on 9518 3577.
