Annual Hard Waste and Green Waste Collection
The City of Monash will undertake its annual Hard Waste and Green Waste Collection over the coming weeks.
Residents will receive a 'Hard, Green Waste & Metals Collection 2009' brochure approximately two weeks before the scheduled collection date for their area. This will detail collection dates and materials that will be collected for disposal.
Council advises residents not to place items on the nature strip until they have received their brochure and are advised of their collection date.
Residents must put their rubbish in three separate stacks for collection, dividing hard rubbish from green waste and from metal and whitegoods.
Items for disposal must be:- Placed on the nature strip
- No longer than 1.5m
- No heavier than 50kg
- Can be lifted by 2 persons
- Doors must be removed on fridges & freezers
HARD WASTE
Hard waste items that will be collected include:- Carpet/Linoleum rolled and tied
- Scrap metal
- Fencing in small panels with no projecting nails
- China, window glass and mirrors that are securely wrapped and marked
- Household furniture
- Mattresses and bed bases
- Timber no longer than 1.5m in length and less than 50kg in weight
- Televisions, computers, printers
- Rubble, concrete, bricks or excavated material
- Industrial or hazardous waste, including asbestos
- Waste motor oil, liquid waste, chemicals or pesticides
- Materials from professional renovations and building sites
- Household garbage
- Tyres of any type
- Recyclables (bottles, paper, plastic)
- Car Batteries
- Paint
GREEN WASTE
Green waste items that will be collected include:- Tree stumps or roots (must be able to be lifted by one person)
- Tree cuttings and prunings (less than 75mm in diameter), bundled and tied with twine or string
- Grass clippings, weeds, vines and leaves, placed in open containers (all containers will be left) with no soil
- Single tree limbs (minimum 75mm in diameter), free of branches and leaves
- Tree prunings or branches in excess of 50kg or 1.5m in length
- Soil, earth or topsoil
- Untied prunings
- No plastic bags or wheelie bins to be used
- Do not tie prunings with wire or plastic
METALS AND WHITEGOODS
Metals and whitegoods will be collected and recycled for further use.
Items that will be collected include:- Empty oil heaters and tanks
- Empty paint tins (lids off)
- Motor mowers
- Baths
- Spouting no more than 1.5m length
- Metal car parts and car panels (no more than 1.5m long and 50kg in weight)
- White goods and appliances
- Hot water systems
- Metal tools and equipment
- Play equipment no more than 1.5m length
- Water tanks, either whole or dismantled
- Gas bottles
Residents must ensure that rubbish is ready for collection before 6am on the Monday of your collection week and that no vehicles are parked in front of materials to be collected. Hard waste placed out late will not be collected.
