Monash Ratepayers Have Their Say On Rates Review
28 August 2009
Monash ratepayers have turned out in force to have their say on Council's rating strategy review, with over 500 residents contributing by phone, written submission and in person at the public information sessions held this month.
Council is considering several options to determine which method will be used to calculate rates from the 2010/2011 financial year and there is still time to 'Have Your Say'.
"Council is working together with ratepayers to find the fairest rating system for everyone and there is still time for residents to participate. I would encourage anyone who hasn't yet been part of this process to submit written feedback or ring the Hotline," said Cr Klisaris.
Another option that is being considered under the review is a change to Capital Improved Value (CIV), which would base rates on the total value of the property including all land, buildings and improvements.
The third option, CIV with Differentials (150% of CIV) allows for a higher rate charge for commercial and industrial properties.
Frequently asked questions from the Rates Strategy Review information sessions have been posted online at Frequently Asked Questions - Rates Review Information Sessions.
Monash residents who do not have access to the Internet at home can visit any local library branch and a staff member will assist them in accessing information and making a submission at no charge.
