Monash Seniors Festival & Positive Ageing Lifestyles Expo

7 September 2009

The City of Monash will celebrate the 2009 Seniors Festival with 28 events starting on Monday 28 September.

This year's gala events include a Festival Tea Dance and a concert featuring the music of Neil Diamond, a mystery film night and the Laughter Workshop.

The Festival runs from 28 September to 9 October and will include educational workshops, social occasions, hearing tests, open days, entertainment and musical programs. There will be classes in tai chi, yoga, lawn bowls and 'Walktober' in Jells Park. The Festival will also feature the Police Showcase Band evening at the Oakleigh Hall.

The Positive Ageing Lifestyles Expo will be held from 10am to 2pm, on 30 September at Tresedar Hall in the Glen Waverley Secondary College. The Expo will have around 40 stall holders and provide free giveaways, a 13CABS free barbecue, hearing tests and 'Born To Be Wild' photos with the Ulysses Motorbike Club.

Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris said the Monash Seniors Festival and 'Positive Ageing Lifestyles Expo' continues to grow every year and provides a great opportunity for Seniors to connect with each other and with the community.

"We are pleased to announce this year's Seniors Festival Program, which includes 28 exciting events. That's 28 opportunities to learn something new, enjoy a cultural event and make new friends," Cr Klisaris said.

The City of Monash has 26,686 residents over the age of 65 years. This amounts to 16.6 % of the total population, the largest age group in the municipality.

The 2009 Seniors Week Festival is proudly supported by Monash City Council and the Monash Journal.
