Top Prizes Announced In Annual Short Story Competition

Eighty-six tales of adventure, mayhem, mystery, love and other catastrophes were recently submitted by aspiring local authors to the Monash Literature Festival's 13th annual Short Story Competition.
In presenting the awards yesterday, Deputy Mayor Charlotte Baines said that this year's entries were of a particularly high standard.
"I would like to congratulate everyone who entered a story in the Short Story Competition. We have a lot of talented writers here in the City of Monash and we have enjoyed reading your tales of imagination and creativity," said Cr Baines.
Authors Paddy O'Reilly and Simmone Howell chose the winning entrants, who received awards of cash prizes and book vouchers.
Selected stories will be published in the Monash Journal as part of their 'Summer Reading' series.
And the winners are:
12-14 yr category- 1st place - Roya Roohizadegan - 'Taste of the Future'
- 2nd place - Hannah Tay - 'After Many Days'
- 3rd place - Catherine Yu - 'Tom and Thomas'
- Special commendations were awarded to: Chloe Pearce for 'Ultimate Freedom,' Nicholas Brown for 'The Knight of the Temple' and Neha Wadhwa for 'Victorious.'
- 1st place - Sharon Lin - 'Special Shoes For Discerning Feet'
- 2nd place - Liam Sharp - 'The Robber'
- 3rd place - Kate White - ' Paramount'
- Special commendations were awarded to: Daniel Bugge, Conrad Howard for 'Death Himself' and David Williamson for 'Orgin of the Clans.'
- 1st place - Stuart Reedy - 'The Vision'
- 2nd place - John Tilbrook - 'Wheel Dance'
- 3rd place - Nicole Hayes - 'Blarney in the Soul'
- Special commendations were awarded to: Eliza-Jane Henry-Jones for 'Feather Shadows' and Rebecca Martin for 'The Bird.'
