Our response to last week's extreme weather

Monash Council's crews continue to work all available daylight shifts to repair damage caused by storms on Thursday, 20 December and Friday, 21 December.

Council received over 700 calls from residents over the two days with requests for help with fallen trees and limbs and flooded drains. Thirty-seven of Council's own buildings sustained water damage of varying degrees. More than 120 mm of rain fell in Monash over the two days and it would appear that we were one of the hardest hit areas in Melbourne during what was clearly an extraordinary weather event.

Council's priority during the storm, and in the mopping up phase that has followed, has been to provide assistance to those residents whose homes were threatened with or affected by flooding.

We ask residents to continue to show patience as the clean up continues, as full restoration could take some months.

Work is concentrated on the clearing of blocked drains that have filled with debris washed in by the storms. This can be a difficult and time consuming task and Council has all available equipment and crews dedicated to it.

Residents who require assistance with the removal of water damaged carpets or furniture can also call Council on 9518 3690 to assist with its removal.
