Building Surveying Services

A total of 2,075 building permits valued at $522.8M were issued by private building surveyors during the year. A further 216 building permits valued at $13.76M were issued by Council's Municipal Building Surveyor or his delegate. A total of 2,119 building permit inspections were undertaken by Council's Building Inspectors.

Four hundred and three Report and Consents (Dispensations) were issued by Council's delegated Building Surveyor to vary siting and height requirements under the Building Regulations 2006. Of these, 160 were advertised to adjoining affected neighbours, while the remainder were for front fences or minor issues. Seven matters were submitted as an appeal to the Building Appeals Board for a Determination.

As a part of Council's new priority Essential Safety Measures inspection program, under Part 12 of the Building Regulations 2006, 383 buildings were inspected and approved, which is an increase of 33% on last year.

Council's Building Inspectors investigated 457 swimming pools, which is a decrease of 5% on the previous year.

The Municipal Building Surveyor or his delegate issued 371 Notices and Orders under the Building Act 1993 for illegal or non complying building work, dangerous buildings, and drainage issues, which is an increase of 37% on last year.

 Successful prosecution of 5 matters was undertaken by the Municipal Building Surveyor or his delegate before the Dandenong Magistrates Court.
