Strategic Objective 3 - A Prosperous Community
Economic Development
Monash Enterprise Centre
The Monash Enterprise Centre in Mulgrave is a small business incubator facility sponsored by Council. It operated successfully during the period and generally at full capacity. It provided a valuable start-up facility for businesses during 2006/07.
The success of the Centre in promoting local small businesses resulted in Council developing a Stage 2 extension comprising 15 additional small office units, which adds to the existing 21 offices. It was officially opened in March 2007. The Federal Government also contributed financial support towards the extension.
Business Networks
The Monash Economic Development Forum held four committee meetings and two dinner functions during the year. Guest speakers spoke on the Monash Enterprise Centre, compulsory superannuation, Work Choices Legislation, Technology Capabilities Alignment Project, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Pinewood Activity Centre and the Bendigo Bank.
Council supported the Monash Business Awards to continue to run breakfast and lunch events that culminated with the Gala Dinner and Awards Presentation evening. These events again proved to be very successful with an average attendance of around 200 attendees, providing networking opportunities for local business and presentation of various keynote speakers.
The City of Monash First for Business Economic Development Strategy 2008 - 2012 was also developed during the 2006/2007 period.
