Strategic Objective 4 - A Liveable City

Infrastructure

Clayton Community Centre

Construction work on the new $24.2 million Clayton Community Centre has continued to progress, with completion of the new building due early in 2008. This Daryl Jackson Architecture designed Centre, with its unique combination of community facilities, will be an important community hub and major civic focus for the Clayton area.

This project has demonstrated the successful funding partnership between Council and the State Government and continues to attract interest from other local and state planning authorities for its "one-stop-shop" concept for community services.

The new Centre includes a heated 25-metre 6-lane indoor pool with adjacent leisure water and spa, an expanded Clayton library, meeting rooms, 127 seat theatre, Council's Youth and Family Services and Maternal Child Health consulting rooms, an arts room, a health club, the Clayton preschool, café and extensive Monashlink Community Health Services on its first floor.

The project will also see a revitalization of the surrounding car park areas and approach from Centre Road, including extensive landscaping.
