Strategic Objective 4 - A Liveable City

Development

Activity Centres

Council has progressed the construction of the Clayton Community Centre, scheduled to open early in 2008. The project includes significant urban design works within the activity centre car park so that the facility will be fully integrated within the activity centre. The Clayton traders have also developed a self-funding promotional charge for their centre. Both initiatives should provide economic stimulus for the existing businesses in Clayton.

Mount Waverley and Pinewood activity centres have also promoted and enhanced their respective centres through self-funding promotional charges.

Following market research, Oakleigh traders have re-branded their centre as Oakleigh Village. Implementation of this includes the new branding on banner poles at key gateways to the centre and development of a website.

Clayton, Mount Waverley and Oakleigh also participated in the State Government's StreetLife program to enhance their vitality through various programs with the support of Council.

Construction of the combined 6-storey office and hotel development on land immediately to the south of the Civic Centre in Glen Waverley is nearing completion. This project, together with the three storey office complex built on former Council land in Montclair Avenue is indicative of the Glen Waverley activity centre growing as a premier entertainment, retail accommodation and commercial hub in the eastern region of Melbourne.

Structure Plans for the Wheelers Hill, Brandon Park and Monash Technology Precinct Specialized Activity Centres were also progressed.
