Equitable Access
Disability Services
Council Officers continue to support and resource the City of Monash Disability Consultative Committee.
Achievements during the past year include:- The launch of Council's Disability Access and Inclusion Framework and Action Plan 2007 - 2008
- The organisation of a disability forum with a focus on assisting people with disabilities into open employment
- Celebration of International Day for Disability in December, by showing a film from the "Other Film Festival"
- Upgrading the Jordanville Maternal and Child Health Centre so that it is accessible to people with disabilities
- $248,000 spent upgrading Council buildings to improve access in addition to incorporating equitable access in all building refurbishments and new buildings.
Council's Metro Access Community Development program (funded by the Department of Human Services) has also been active on a number of fronts.
- Resourcing the Monash Access and Inclusion Network
- The implementation of disability awareness training to Neighbourhood House employees
- A person-centred employment program for people with disabilities with the EW Tipping Foundation.
- A $50,000 grant from the Department of Human Services to pilot an Attendant Care Service at the Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
