Maternal and Child Health Service
The Maternal and Child Health Service is a free service for all Monash families with children aged 0-6 years. It offers support, information and advice regarding parenting, child health and development, child behaviour, maternal health and well-being, child safety, immunisation, breastfeeding, nutrition and family planning. First time parents can also join groups that provide health information, and an opportunity to meet other parents in the local area.
- 14,788 key age and stage visits to young children from birth to 6 years
- 1,736 home visits to new babies
- 3,544 telephone consultations
- 444 new parent group sessions.
The breastfeeding support service provided to women experiencing breastfeeding problems was held weekly. Over 100 women utilised the service and expressed a high rate of satisfaction.
A Chinese-speaking parent group was conducted quarterly at the Jordanville MCH Centre for all families from Monash. The sessions were widely attended by families, including grandparents.
Several events were held for families, including the annual Walk In The Park and Children's Expo in October and a forum for dads with young children. A quarterly newsletter was produced and widely distributed to families.
