Strategic Objective 3 - A Prosperous Community

Urban Character and Natural Environment

Town Planning

Monash Planning Services issued a total of 840 Planning Permits, 182 Notices of Decision to Grant a Permit, 106 Refusals to Grant a Permit and processed 355 applications for Subdivision. The service also received 406 applications for Vegetation Removal. These figures are an indicator of the strong economic growth which continues to be experienced in the City.

The large numbers of planning applications for multi-unit residential development and applications for subdivision continues to place a strain on Council's planning resources.

The sustained strong activity in urban renewal throughout the City, and in particular, the demand for a variety of housing types, continues to cause concern amongst the community whose preference is to retain existing neighbourhood amenity.

While Council has policies in place to guide and encourage this type of development towards activity centres, market forces continue to lead to development throughout our residential areas.
