Strategic Objective 1 - An Inclusive and Connected Community

1.3 Equitable Access

Disability Services

Council endorsed the new Disability Access and Inclusion Framework 2009-2013 in June 2009. The Disability Consultative Committee (DCC) actively contributed to this along with a number of other projects including the annual Disability Forum, Disability Awards initiative and Council's research project: 'Communicating with people with disabilities'.

This year's Monash Disability Forum was titled: 'To be or not be inclusive – Perspectives on Social Inclusion' and focused on issues and challenges relating to social inclusion and/or exclusion for people with a disability. Sue-Ann Post, a Melbourne based comedian and writer, hosted the forum and a panel of four speakers shared with the audience of approximately one hundred people their experience of social inclusion/exclusion, government policy and challenges yet to be overcome.

Council's Community Grants program continued to support projects with a focus on access and inclusion for people with a disability, their carers and families.

In the 2009 Community Support Program, disability organisations received in excess of $55,000 of cash and in kind funding.
