Strategic Objective 2 - A Supportive Community
A supportive community will enable the provision of quality community services with a particular focus on the aged, children, youth and families for service provision and coordination as well as long-term viability of sporting, recreational and cultural activities.
2.1 Aged
Aged Accommodation
Council continued the provision of high quality care across its three facilities at Monash Gardens, Clarinda Centre and Elizabeth Gardens. These facilities provide 77 nursing home beds, 133 hostel beds and 48 independent living units.
The City of Monash now has a greater number and variety of new aged care facilities offering residents choice. Support continues to be given to existing local providers and potential aged care developers to increase the number of beds available for City of Monash residents.
Positive Ageing
Council has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to Positive Ageing and addressing the needs, issues and concerns of its ageing population by developing positive relationships with key stakeholders, assisting in the Baby Boomer research study undertaken by KPMG on behalf of Council and working with Monash Volunteer Resource Centre to promote the benefits of volunteering as a means to staying active and engaged.
