Maternal and Child Health
Maternal and Child Health Service number of new enrolments
During the year, 1,946 babies were born to families in Monash and 6,090 families attended the service.
Participation of families in the service included:- 15,812 key age and stage visits for children from birth to 6 years
- 1,866 home visits for new babies
- 3,339 telephone consultations
- 366 new parent group sessions
The Enhanced Maternal & Child Health service for vulnerable families with children aged 0-12 months supported 98 families during the year.
The breastfeeding outreach service assisted over 170 women with breastfeeding problems.
Chinese speaking new parents groups were held quarterly at the Jordanville Centre. Each group consisted of four weekly sessions, which was widely attended by parents, grandparents and family members.
A Korean-speaking mothers group was commenced during the year and meets at the Clayton Community Centre.
Maternal and Child Health staff contributed to or arranged activities and events for families over 2008/2009. These included the annual 'Walk In The Park' and Children's Week Expo in October at Jells Park; 'Dads on Deck' which was held in July for fathers with young children aged from birth to 3 years; and the 'New Family Connections' newsletters which were published quarterly.
