Strategic Objective 3: A Prosperous Community
A prosperous and sustainable community will be maintained and promoted where the character and natural environment is recognised, valued and protected, the economic development of the city is enriched and the safety, quality, capability and effectiveness of community infrastructure and transport systems are continually improved.
3.1 Urban Character and Natural Environment
Town Planning
Monash Planning Services issued a total of 779 Planning Permits, 219 Notices of Decision to Grant a Permit, 89 Refusals to Grant a Permit and processed 305 applications for Subdivision. The service also received 288 applications for Vegetation Removal.
Number of Town Planning Applications received
Even though there has been a slight reduction in the number of planning applicationsthere is still a large number of planning applications for multi-unit residential development and subdivision. This has sustained strong activity in urban renewal throughout the City, and in particular, the demand for a variety of housing types. This trend continues to cause concern amongst the community whose preference is to retain existing neighbourhood amenity.
A Guideline for the development of Student Accommodation in Monash has been adopted to ensure that future development proposals will be considered fairly and consistently in the best interests of the whole community. This Guide is to be developed as Policy for inclusion in the Monash Planning Scheme.
