3.2 Transport Systems
Traffic Management
Local Area Traffic Management works occurred at the following locations at a cost of $247,000:- mini roundabout installations along Francis, Gentle, Dunstan and McBean Streets, Clayton, and Hammence Street, Glen Waverley
- roundabout installations at Barkly Street/Canterbury Street and Barkly Street/NormanbyStreet, Hughesdale
- installation of a pedestrian crossing at Hamilton Place, Mount Waverley
- upgrade of Windsor Avenue/Voumard Street entry into Huntingdale Golf Club, Oakleigh South
Construction of garbage truck turnarounds in six locations, to reduce the need for reversing of large trucks, at a cost of $55,000. Installation of DDA bus stop upgrades as part of an ongoing program on behalf of the Department of Transport at a cost of $76,000.
Road Safety
A road safety review was completed to determine what education programs are provided across Council. The review identified the following areas of community need:- Older adult driving skills and pedestrian safety
- Young children pedestrian skills and secure restraint fittings
- Bicycle safety education
- Education about speed in local areas
- Importance of 120 hours practice for learner drivers
Monash City Council proposed a 40km/h speed limit for the local street network within the Glen Waverley shopping precinct, which was approved by Vic Roads.
