Sports Clubs Innovative Programs Grant Assistance Scheme

The City of Monash Recreation Services has introduced a new grant assistance scheme for all community sports clubs. The purpose of the program is to provide one off financial assistance to enable sports clubs/organisations to provide quality programs and services for the benefit of the local community.

Aims and Objectives
The aims and objectives of the program are to:
  • Assist the establishment of new and innovative programs that enhance the development of supportive community networks.
  • Support programs and activities that are consistent with the values and principles identified by the City of Monash 2005/2006 Recreation Strategy.
  • Assist the development of programs and services that aim to remove barriers to participation and promote access to all members of the community on an equitable basis.
Assessment Criteria
To be considered, an applicant must:
  • Target an identified area of sporting or recreational need.
  • Demonstrate a clear community benefit.
  • Show sustainable project outcomes.
  • Be consistent with and enhance; Government Policies; Council policies, programs, objectives and guidelines.
Who can apply?
All non-profit sporting and recreational organisations/clubs, (where any profits generated are retained for the benefits of the members) and Sporting clubs/organisations that are a current tenant of the City of Monash.

Sports Clubs Innovative Programs Grant Assistance Guildelines

Purpose of the program

To provide one off financial assistance to enable sports clubs/organisations to provide quality programs and services for the benefit of the local community.

Aims/Objectives
  • Assist the establishment of new and innovative programs that enhance the development of supportive community networks.
  • Support programs and activities that are consistent with the values and principles identified by the City of Monash 2005/2006 Recreation Strategy.
  • Assist the development of programs and services that aim to remove barriers to participation and promote access to all members of the community on an equitable basis.
Assessment Criteria
To be considered, an applicant must
  • Target an identified area of sporting or recreational need.
  • Demonstrate a clear community benefit.
  • Show sustainable project outcomes.
  • Be consistent with and enhance; Government Policies; Council policies, programs, objectives and guidelines.
Who can apply?
  • Nonprofit sporting and recreational organisations/clubs (where any profits generated are retained for the benefits of the members).
  • Sporting clubs/organisations that are a current tenant of the City of Monash.
What types of projects WILL and WILL NOT be considered.
Will be considered
  • Programs that clearly demonstrate the benefit of the project/service to the community (economic, social, environmental)
  • Projects that address issues around safety and risk management.
  • Projects that maximise the range of users/usage of the facility.
  • Projects that broaden community access and increase opportunities for participants.
  • Projects that are consistent with and enhance Councils policies programs and objectives.
  • Club mentoring programs.
  • Examples include; Sunsmart Issues, Responsible Serving of Alcohol Training, Smoke Free, Older Adult participation programs, inclusion programs for people with disabilities etc.
Will NOT be considered
  • Sports equipment replacement.
  • Capital Works Projects.
  • Individuals.
  • Organisations that are not incorporated.
  • Fund Raising events or activities.
  • Programs that require ongoing funding.
Funding Details

Grants of up to $500.00 may be applied for in any 1 financial year.

How to apply?
  1. Carefully consider the program's criteria for assessment and suitability. If you are unclear whether your project meets the criteria please contact Recreation Services on 9518 3560. If you feel that your submission is eligible and that you can provide other necessary information please read below.

  3. Send all information to Recreation Services, Innovative Program Grants, P.O. Box 1, Glen Waverley 3150.
Terms and Conditions of the Grant.
Organisations submitting grant proposals must provide details of
  • Aim of project.
  • Specific details and expected outcomes of the project.
  • Project budget.
  • Expenditure in accordance to the proposed grants.
  • Club's contribution to the project, either financial or in-kind.
  • Club's ability to provide written evaluation reports of program outcomes.

Any funds unused must be returned to Council.

Council also retains the right to request progress reports.

All supporting information must be provided for your application to be considered.

Payment of Grants

Grant funds will be paid to the club/organisation upon receipt of documented expenditure related to the approved project.
