Recreation Strategy
4. Increasing Community Participation
Encouraging greater participation in recreation and leisure, as a means of contributing to the health and wellbeing of the community and managing concerns related to obesity, will provide the framework for this objective.
Key outcomes for the next four years include:
- An educated community that is aware of the range of opportunities available to participate in sport and recreation through the use of the Commonwealth and State Government's commitment to increasing participation
- Improved participation in local sport and recreation clubs (particularly those experiencing decline), through effective club management, promotion and broadening the scope of experiences on offer
- Facilitated relationships with the business community that focus on support for local sport and recreation
- An expanded scope for new community facilities that creates opportunities for non-traditional use, through innovative design
- Effective partnerships and linkages with other community organizations, that facilitate increased participation in sport and recreation and an enhanced capacity of local communities
