Parks and Reserves - Information
Walk ... run ...or watch the grass grow
Everyone knows the benefits of exercise and fresh air, but what you may not know is that the City of Monash has 125 parks and reserves and a wide range of recreational facilities to enjoy.
The bushland reserves also treat storm water through constructed wetlands and the installation of litter traps, and so contribute to improved water quality in local creeks and ultimately the Yarra River.
Every year, Council plants around 100,000 trees, shrubs and groundcovers across the city, the majority in the bushland reserves. Local Friends Groups, made up of committed local residents, have also been instrumental in the rehabilitation of many local environments. A contact list for these groups has been included.
If you have any questions about recreation in Monash, give Council's Recreation Services Department a call during business hours on 9518 3559 or 9518 3560.
Park-Friendly Behaviour
While you're visiting the park, we ask you to follow a few basic rules:- Dogs must be on leads in all public areas, except for 30 designated parks.
- Cats are prohibited from entering the following parks:
Valley Reserve, Damper creek, Fairway Reserve, Portsmouth Reserve and Gardiners Reserve (east of creek channel). - Keep to designated tracks. Walking or riding off tracks can damage plants, cause erosion and encourage weed growth.
- Please don't feed ducks or other birdlife. Bread and other scraps attract rats and can cause nutrient build-up and algae growth.
- Please take your litter home with you.
