Mission

Values

Recreation Services remains committed to the following values:

• An equitable and sustainable provision of services and facilities throughout the municipality that maximizes community usage.
• Recognising the role that facilities and services play in providing a diversity of recreational and leisure opportunities for residents to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
• Recognising the benefits in developing partnerships with community groups to achieve shared recreation and leisure goals.
• Maintaining and managing facilities to a high standard.
• Facilitating Sporting Associations to develop sport within the municipality.
• Understanding the community's recreation and leisure needs.
• Facilitating access for all.

Objectives

With the successful implementation of previous recreation strategic plans that centred on the three key themes of:

• Facility Development and Planning;
• Management of Recreational Facilities and Parks; and
• Recreation Participation;

There is now an opportunity to implement an enhanced set of objectives that will encourage the implementation of the Recreation Services Department's Mission. These key focus areas have been formulated to align with Council's overall corporate objectives and are underpinned by the following principles:

• Maximising the benefits to the community;
• Being accountable for public funds and human resources; and
• Optimum input from the major users of facilities and services;

These objectives will be implemented through a series of annual action plans designed to respond effectively to prevailing trends, legislative environments, community expectations and available resources.
