Sports Club News - Issue 39, April 2008

MONASH SPORTSCENE

KEY TOPIC - Club Training Seminar Success

Identify the issue, investigate the solutions, plan & implement the action.

Sara Edwards from Sport Education Victoria facilitated an interactive and thought-provoking session regarding the current issues facing sports clubs. In a dynamic change from focussing on the issues that sports clubs are currently dealing with, the discussions centred on solutions. The end result saw clubs networking with each other, sharing their successful experiences, and most importantly talking to each other about solutions.

It was identified that with the changing needs of society and continuing weather conditions sporting clubs are required to be ahead of the game, and by utilising the resources and expertise at hand are better equipped to achieve this. With fencing, tennis, football, baseball, cricket, archery, athletics, touch football, gymnastics, rugby league, and netball represented, the clubs achieved the following outcomes on the night:

Issues Identified
  • Training facilities
  • Lack of volunteers
  • Cultural differences
  • Watering grounds
  • Water saving issues
  • Fund raising
  • Legal and council requirements and paperwork
  • Uneven grounds – injuries
  • Suitable alternative training venues
  • Spoiling other facilities
  • Impact on fitness
  • Health & Safety, Risk Management
  • Funding for water alternative strategies
