MONASH SPORTSCENE

Healthy Kids in Monash

The 'Healthy Kids in Monash' project focuses on increasing physical activity and healthy nutrition habits amongst primary school children. It aims to take preventative action within the City of Monash to curb the national trend of increasing childhood obesity.

Currently there are five local schools working in collaboration with Monash City Council, the Oakleigh Recreation Centre, MonashLink, Greater South Eastern Division of General Practice, Deakin University and Inner East Primary Care Partnership.

The steering committee have identified a need to connect primary school children with local sporting Clubs to expand the opportunity for participation in physical activity and sport, as well as increasing the social connectedness of families with their community.

Participating schools have been provided with resources to work directly with local sporting clubs to create pathways into community sport. Opportunities exist for the clubs to provide expertise through the provision of coaching clinics and other activities that have the potential to increase memberships.
