MONASH SPORTSCENE

Important Club Reminders

Working With Children Check

A reminder that the deadline for volunteers/employees in the following sports is 1 July 2009: Athletics (including Little Athletics), Basketball, Cricket, Football (Australian Rules), Football (Soccer), Gymnastics (including Trampolining), Martial Arts, Netball, Swimming (including Life Saving), and Tennis.

Clubs/organisations with staff and/or volunteers whom are required to hold a valid WWCC but do not do so (after 1 July 2009) face penalties including fines up to $27,000 and/or up to 2 years jail. As the responsibility lies with the clubs or organizations, it is in the best interest to ensure all the relevant individuals have obtained their WWCC.

The Department of Justice can offer assistance in the way of providing information sessions, information packs, newsletter articles, and further information, contact Prashanth Reddy on 8684 1213 to access these resources.

Winter and Yearly Fees & Charges

All Clubs should have received a letter indicating what the Club's fees and charges are likely to be. If changes need to be made, Clubs must contact Council's Recreation Services unit before 8 June 2009. After this date an invoice will be issued via the Finance Department and no further adjustments will be made.

It is the responsibility of the Clubs to check that this initial indicative cost is correct and to contact Council by the required date if changes need to be made.

Noise Policy

Clubs are reminded that with the exception of the sport played at the reserve, the Club is not permitted to cause any loud noise or disturbance in the licensed area (Section 9.7). Clubs should give consideration to neighbouring properties and Good Neighbour Guidelines are available for assistance in this matter.

Whilst play or other activities may take place outside the following weekend hours (subject to the hours of the License Agreement), Clubs are to ensure that whistles, sirens, music or other sources are not causing loud noise outside:
  • Saturday: 9am to 11pm
  • Sunday and public holidays: 9am to 10pm

Noise complaints from residents are taken seriously by Council and noted on file. It is the responsibility of Clubs to ensure that all members and visitors abide by these regulations in relation to noise. Continual violations by Clubs could jeopardise Club's tenancy.

Facility Development Program

Sports Clubs that occupy Council facilities under current seasonal club licence arrangements are required to adhere to the following guidelines and licence conditions when considering improvements to the premises or reserve.

Council will consider applications by resident Clubs to develop existing pavilion sport specific structures and playing facilities over and above the standard amenities provided, either as part of its regular capital upgrade program or as a stand-alone project, provided the following requirements are met:
  • relevant project rationale and supporting documentation that addresses the demonstrated need, community benefit, facility usage and levels of participation as a result of the proposed development
  • preliminary sketch plans
  • current project cost estimates
  • proposed project management details (including insurance, licensed professionals details)
  • current Club(s) financial viability
  • the long-term strategy and business plans for the Club(s)
  • the agreement of co-tenants that share the use of the pavilion and/or reserve

All proposals should be forwarded to Council in the format detailed in the "Sport and Recreation Facility Development Guidelines", available from Recreation Services.

An information session for submissions will be held on Wednesday 17 June 2009 prior to the program opening in August. Please note self-funded proposals may be submitted at any time.

For more information on these items, contact Carly Goodrich, Sports Club Liaison & Development Officer on 9518 3583 or carlyg@monash.vic.gov.au
