Damper Creek Trail

Trail Directions

Important note: This walk begins and ends at the same point.

  1. Starting from the carpark, cross Park Street and turn left, continuing for a short distance past the playground. Here you will come to an information board along side a small - unsealed track. This marks the beginning of you walk. As you begin your walk you'll soon come across Damper Creek and the beautiful wetlands on the right. Continue along the path following it to the right. Be sure not to feed the animals, especially the Water Dragons!
  2. On the left you'll pass a couple of waterfalls, which flow well during the winter months! Eventually you will come to a large footbridge on your right. (For people wanting to cut the walk short walk you can cross the creek and return to the playground). Continue past the large bridge for approximately 850 metres where you will come to a small footbridge. Cross the creek, climb the hill and continue following the track for 150 metres. Here you will come to a large Weeping Willow at the top of the staircase.
  3. Walk down the stairs (be careful, these are slippery when wet), cross the creek again and turn right. After approximately 80 metres you'll arrive at an intersection, take the lower path. Continue along, past the large footbridge, keeping Damper Creek on your right. Climb the small hill following the fence lines. There is a small gate on your right about 200m ahead that leads to the wetland area. This is a fantastic spot to lay your rug and settle into a good book.
  4. Back on the track you have a walk of approximately 100 metres where you will come to the playground. This brings you back to where you began the walk.

In 1968 Damper Creek was to become a covered drain and the Reserve subdivided for housing. This was not be as local residents successfully lobbied to have the creek preserved as a local park.

The Friends of Damper Creek in partnership with the City of Monash have been progressively restoring the creek environment and the remnant indigenous vegetation since 1993. Thanks to this work Damper Creek is now a 'Land for Wildlife' area, so keep your eyes open to the many species of animals and birds that live along the trail.

Resident species include:
Ringtail Possums; Sugar Gliders; Eastern Water Dragon; Bats; Blue Tongue Lizards; Turtles; the Tawny Frog Mouth Owl; Rainbow Lorikeets, Eastern and Crimson Rosella's; Kookaburra's and hundreds of other birds.
