Disability Access and Inclusion Framework and Action Plan 2009 – 2013

5. Leadership and Advocacy

Objective:
Council demonstrates leadership on disability issues through strong advocacy and lobbying
No Action Timelines Responsibility Outcome
5.1 Council continues to advocate to other levels of Government on issues of importance to people with a disability, their carers and families. On-going Community Planning and Development Issues are raised and action is taken.
5.2 Council continues to support the Monash Disability Consultative Committee and the Monash Access and Inclusion Network. On-going Community Planning and Development Membership of DCC and MAIN is reviewed and updated according to their Terms of Reference.
5.3 Council continues to actively participate at Regional and State wide Networks (such as the Victorian Local Government Planner Network) that support and promote issues impacting on people with a disability, their carers and families. On-going Community Planning and Development Monash is an active participant.
5.4 Council continues to meet with peak bodies and other key stakeholders to seek feedback on issues important to people with a disability. This will assist Council to effectively advocate for issues to be addressed by Council where appropriate and/or other entities. On-going Community Planning and Development Meetings are held on a regular basis.
5.5 Hold an annual forum with people with a disability and other key stakeholders to seek feedback on issues important to people with a disability, their families and carers. 2009-2010 and then on-going Community Planning and Development Annual forum held.
